When it comes to finding contributors, it's not always that easy.
Our group took a different approach and decided to get into contact with BBC Radio Cornwall to help our search. James, our producer, got in contact with the station and we managed to get a phone in slot between 2pm-3pm. Alice, our director spoke on the phone, which was aired live on the station.

Jib/ Wally Dolly practice
After practising with the Wally Dolly and Jib separate we noticed that the Jibs movement was more static, so decided to test out both together.
We had managed to create smooth movements which will help show the fluid motion of the professional swimmer in the pool.
To re create what we wanted to record in the pool, I got James to pretend he was swimming and it allowed me to keep practising the pace and movement we want for this particular shot.

"1 in 5 children can't swim"...why not?!
When we had to choose to work within a certain group, the one that stuck out the most was Alices pitch about swimming.
'Swimming is a life-skill but one in five adults and one in five children across the UK can't swim at all'
This statistic shocked me and I wanted to be involed in a project that tried to look at why this is the case, as part of the National Curriculum children should be leaving school being able to swim 25m, but this isn't the case. I also realised that it would involve alot of beautiful visuals in the pool I wanted to push my skills as a camera woman and boost my confidence. I realise that at current I still not fully confident with filming but this project gives me the scope to show my creativity and learn a unsual way to shoot.
This project will allow me to specialise in an area that I want to persue as a career and it gives me the responsibilites that I have to consider when being a professional.

Recce under pressure
When it comes to doing a Recce you don't expect perfect camera work but you do want to make sure you can get across what the contributor is like on camera.
I found that when we interviewed Len, who is one of our contributors for our next group project (3 minute wonder), it had to be done quickly due to the lack of time he had availble. We got a general feel of how he was on camera but it felt a bit rushed with us quickly setting up the camera, pointing and recording and then letting him get back to his busy schedule.
It was productive though, even with the lack of time we managed to record of him on camera we were able to talk to parents to start to build up these relationships and develop some kind of trust with them. Due to the difficulties we will face with filming children swimming, these relationships need to become strong. This isn't a set back just something we will overcome as a group!

Prepare to Pitch
Coming up with ideas aren't always easy and then when you do find an idea it's making sure it fits the brief.

GUINNESS!
For our final actuality footage I decided to nominate myself to help El make a chocolate Guinness cake, it was to help her feel less nervous in front of the camera. I was just as nervous as her but we soon relaxed.
However, most of the things that could go wrong whilst making a cake DID! It all adds to getting those 'GEM' moments.
The camera work was really good and as a team we worked well, especially in such a cramped environment with two cameras, a sound lady and me and El trying to make a cake without ruining the shots. I enjoyed making this film the most just because it was such a nice atmosphere and I couldn't help but laugh at our attempt! It definitely helped that we found a good contributor like El. Even though at one point I did think she wouldn't be on camera and I'd have to face it on my own. Just glad it worked well and I'm looking forward to trying the cake....

When's too much and when's not enough?
So far we have been lucky enough not to undershoot which makes editing easier, especially in a room with no windows! But on occasion I feel we have overshot which means we have been looking through a lot of footage especially as the final edit should only be a minute.
Picking your best shots as well seems to be proving difficult, especially if you have quite a few well shot close ups that you can use as cutaways and then you have to realise you can't use them all, you get a little attached to them.
Well its better than not having enough, just something that will improve with practice.

Interview feedback
After getting feedback about the interview footage, I realise that we need to learn about lighting but this is all about developing and learning as a group and each week we have definitely been improving rather than going backwards.
I really enjoyed filming the interviews last week it gave me the chance to do camera for the whole shoot as in the first couple of weeks we shared out the roles so only got a snippet into each role compared to experiencing it from start to finish. It makes life a whole lot easier when we have more defined roles and overall I feel our group have been very organised at delegating and deciding who's going to do what.
Filming for our actuality brief has been arranged with the ceramics contributor who was really easy to interview, hopefully she'll make an interesting contributor to film for the next task.

last couple of weeks
The first week was a little bit stressful just because it was our first time working as a group and it was all a bit overwhelming thinking of three ideas to shoot. However, we managed to shoot all the footage in a day without any hiccups. Just trying to get your head around Avid isn't easy and that meant that rather than assuming it would take a few hours to do it actually took the whole day.
This week filming the interviews, I have already noticed a change within the group. We have become more organised and shot a day earlier than the week before to allow for more time to edit. Improvements have started to happen but getting the hang of all the paperwork and deadlines will take more practice.
